Mutha Killings Must Stop: Sonko, MCA Tonny Now Want National Government to Intervene.

Story by: Wambua, Kitui Local News

Kitui South leaders on 24th October 2018 conducted peaceful demonstrations in Mutha Town in Kitui County two days after the brutal killing of a resident (King’ondu Mwangangi) by Camel herders believed to be from nearby Tana River County.

Following an act by police offers at Mutha to stop the leaders from addressing the residents, hundreds of irritated youths and women matched from MCA’s office to Mutha market where MCA Tonny and other leaders were been held by police.

Addressing his angered ward residents in Mutha, Hon. Anthony said that the demos will continue as planned and no one will stop the exercise.

“Watu wangu wa Mutha, wakati tulikuwa tunakuja hapa tumeshikwa na polisi Ikanga. Kufika hapa Mutha pia, nimeshangaa sana kusimamishwa na polisi na wakatupeleka police station hili tusiwaongeleshe. lakini nataka niseme ya kwamba, sisi viongozi tulio hapa tumesema kwa pamoja hatutanyamaza wakati watu wetu wanaendelea kupoteza maisha yao kwa njia ya mauwaji.” He bitterly quoted.

Tonny bitterly spoke it loud before the Mutomo OCS and OCPD that if any other person from Mutha was to be killed, then the killers whether camel herders or police should kill him first. “And the demos shall go on as planned. No one shall stop us. We will be here every Wednesday until action is taken for these killings.” Said Tonny

Cyrus Musyoka asked the National government through MP Kaki Nyamai to chip in and solve the conflict between the Somali camel herders and Kamba community, and generally the issue of camel herding in Mutha. “Ya kutosha imetosha! Wananchi wa Mutha ni sawa na mwananchi wa Nairobi, na mahali popote nchini Kenya. Hivo wana haki ya kikatiba kulindwa ndiposa wakafanye bihashara zao, wakasome, na wafanye kila kitu kwa amani.” Said Sonko.

A resident of Mutha speaking to Kitui Local News pointed out that it has been over twenty years now since the invasion of herders to Mutha, and no arrests are done to the killers despite many killings witnessed in different villages of Mutha.

The Kitui South NYC Chairman Milton Nyamai said peace is all what Kitui South needs and called upon the National Government through the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to ensure that the issues of insecurity in Mutha have been addressed once and for all.
Tunataka CS Matiang’i akuje Mutha, na asikize kilio cha watu wa Mutha. We are Kenyans, and it is our constitutional right to be protected. Security is our constitutional right! Where is the national government? No one shall stop these demos.” Said Guru. This was backed up by Briton Mbiti (Cobra) who also blamed MP kaki for her ignorance towards the matter.

The message to the residents of Mutha from Kitui County Youth Movement Chair, Kitui South Chapter, Cyprian Singi, was that the killings must come to an end. “tumechoka kuuliwa na wakora wasomali. Na tunasema imetosha. Tunauliza serikali iwaondoe hawa walishaji Mutha. Wasomali warudi kwao, sisi watu wa Mutha tupate amani. Na huo ndio msimamo wetu kama vijana.” Mr. Singi said.

The demonstrations were led by the elected MCA Mutha Ward Hon. Anthony John, Activist Cyrus Musyoka alias Sonko, Kitui South Youth Chairs Cyprian Singi (KYCM) and Milton Nyamai alias Guru (NYC), Ikutha & Kanziku Wards Youth Reps Brighton Mbiti (Cobra) & Isaac Wambua (Ing’oi) respectively, and Ikanga rep Vincent Mwelii among others.
